Ministry (Update!)
Hi everyone!
Here’s what is happening as I move out of the KKCS ministry and break new ground in Khon Kaen.
I have a group of about 10-15 youth at Khon Kaen Church on Sundays. We are doing a series on our Identity in Christ. Since I have to share and teach in Thai, I think my Christian vocab is growing... slightly? Anyway, it’s quite a bit of fun.
I have started a group at the university on Fridays. My initial plan was to get the Christians at the Faculty of Education to start praying for their friends. It just so happened that God had other plans! Instead of praying together, we now have a group of non-christians who meet us on Friday to “fellowship”. Some of these students have lots of emotional baggage. One boy tried to kill himself 3 times and another girl has to see a psych because of problems she had growing up in her family. God wants to heal them and set them free!
I have also been in touch with the newly formed Campus Crusade ministry here at the university. They have fellowship meetings on Thursdays at the Faculty of Agriculture. The Christian club (IFES) meets on Thursday evenings too. I visited the Christian club just last Thursday and shared how God has been working in my life and about my vision of uniting the Christian groups and work at the university. All the groups would like to see unity in principle but in practice, I’m not sure how that’s going to happen. Please pray.
I have also gotten some ALPHA COURSE materials from the Thai Alpha coordinator. I’ve heard about Alpha but never thought about using it till just now! We just had a sharing session with the national coordinator at the Foundation office this afternoon. I see how God is preparing everything for me and how I already have an ALPHA group at the uni to start with and perhaps even a cell group made up of my ex-students!
I spoke to some of my ex-students (the one who had the flu!) about church and youth group and all they could say was – boring! They don’t mind God and the Bible but church is just not for them. I told them we’d meet up during the week and see if we can change our youth group format and perhaps run a “cell” for them. They already had ideas of how they wanted it run. No more boring sermons... haha.
My uni classes are fun. I’ve seen, in just a month or so, some of my students who had real bad attitudes, who hate school, etc. Come for class and contribute and behave totally differently! Some of the other teachers are also commenting that the year has changed so much! Praise God. He is moulding them!
I’ve done my first official consultancy job at a school in Puthaisong district in Buriram province. The teachers and heads there thoroughly enjoyed the training and I earned some money for the foundation. We need a lot more of these to keep the foundation running though! Please pray that God will give me more consulting work in other provinces.
Lastly, i’m feeling a bit under the weather. My stomach has been bad since 2 days ago after having dinner with the Christian club members at the uni. I have cramps and feel feverish! I don’t think it’s the flu though.
God bless and thanks for all your prayers and support!
